Rimmy were in a buoyant mood following their emphatic victory last weekend but they knew it would be a tough test as they came up against a Read United side which has been tipped for big things this season.

Read created the first opening when Waite feinted to cross before taking the ball away from tracking defender. His delivery was cleared to the edge of the box and Tinker was disappointed to send a volley well wide of the upright.

Rimmy showed their first hand of the day with an excellent break which came when Wood raced in to steal possession on the halfway line. Phelps took over, he then unleashed a powerful effort but Grant was able to watch it fly harmlessly behind the target.

Rimmy dealt well with a number of deliveries from left and right as Read sent men forward. The away side were visibly lifted and they came again when Hessy went through the heart of the defence. He dropped a shoulder and went for the shot but Kershaw was able to push it wide.

On 40 minutes visitors came again when Reynolds used trickery to jink his way past two challenges into the area. He stroked a measured first time shot past Kershaw's dive and into the back of the net.

0-1

The dangerous Wood whipped a rapser of a cross across the face of goal with seconds left in the first half, but Tootle was on his heels and he watched as it flashed in front of him before running away to safety

HT 0-1

Home spirits were raised when Tomlinson crunched his way through two challenges to come away with the ball. He spread it to Phelps, but his shot on the run was blocked almost as soon as it left his boot.

Rimmy were gifted a goal with 55 minutes on the clock, Tootle outmuscled his marker and nodded the ball sideways for Phelps to ruthlessly exploit.

1-1

Phelps blazed over when he was sent clean through, with Read convinced the forward was offside, and Tinker brought a diving save from Kershaw in what was another good spell for the visitors.

A superb chance to retake the lead was spurned in the next attack when Reynolds spotted Hessy onside and unmarked in the Rimmy half. He ran clear but got his bearings wrong as he sent his toe poke well past the post

A defensive error allowed Tootle to spin clear on 66 minutes. A neat touch was followed by a thunderbolt past the dive of the visiting keeper.

2-1

The Read gave themselves a lifeline on 70 minutes when Tyrell collided with the forward. The referee pointed to the spot and Waite converted.

2-2

Devenney dropped a shoulder and flicked a delightful pass through, and Tootle struck on the spin with a neat and crisp first-time effort.

3-2

Phelps snatched another goal on 80 minutes as he beat the offside trap before guiding the ball over the advancing keeper.

4-2

Rimmy saw the closing 10 minutes out in relative comfort as they closed the gaps and defended their lines with strength and determination and, in the end, they looked good for the three points

FT 4-2

Manager David Cook - "We missed chances in the second half and we've got to be more ruthless in front of goal because goals change games. But we got three points, really important, and back to back wins."
