A rampant Rimington side put Ribble Valley rivals Waddington to the sword with an emphatic and convincing 4-0 away victory.

Rimmy started on the front foot and Chris Bailey tested the target with a shot, Anderson pushed to safety.

Rimmy took the lead with 15 minutes on the clock. Alex Wood picked up unexpected possession in midfield and his lofted pass was collected by Joel Phelps, He left Anderson with no chance as he thumped the ball into the net.

It was Rimmy asking the questions and a superb defence splitting pass from Oli Devenney found Matt Bagot making a move into the box. He took a touch before spinning to shoot but the Potts did well to get his boot in the way.

Great defending from Jonny Murphy saw him head a free kick delivery out of the danger area, and Rimmy kept their concentration to cope with a period of pressure.

Waddy had half a sniff soon after when a fired in cross from Conti just missed the boot of the onrushing Brinskill.

With moments left in the half, Chris Bailey crossed on the run. Joel Phelps had the goal at his mercy, just eight yards out, but he lost his bearings and headed wide.

HT 0-1

Just after the break a superb diagonal pass from Jonny Murphy found Robert Smith hugging the touchline with Rimmy finding space, and his squared ball found Joel Phelps, he made no mistake as he slotted in. 0-2

There was a moment of panic for Rimmy when a wicked inswinging corner bypassed everybody, Jonny Murphy again cleared the danger.

The game lifted in intensity, with both sides pushing, and a run from Robert Smith had to be watched as he weaved and bobbed his way into the area.

Joel Phelps scored 3rd goal of the game and 19th of the season on 75 minutes. Sam Langford picked up a loose ball in midfield and knocked through to the Joel Phelps, who rounded the outrushing Anderson and finished with ease. 0-3

Waddy were awarded a penalty on 88 minutes. Rimington’s former striker and record goal scorer Robert Lloyd stepped up, he dragged his shot horribly wide.

In added time Waddy hit the self-destruct button. Comedy defending from Potts and Darnell allowed Josh Corrigan to spin clear. A neat touch was followed by an unstoppable thunderbolt. 0-4

Manager David Cook “It was a really good performance on an awful pitch. Joel Phelps was superb, he scored some great goals. We were aggressive, wanted to win, and fully deserved it without being at our best. We were clinical and gave up very few opportunities.”
