Phil Hodgson, after 45 years service as a player, manager, committee member and in more recent years groundsman, has decided to hang up his fork and retire.
Phil has spent many hours working his wonders on the pitch and this has resulted in it becoming one of the best in Lancashire; Phil would be on the pitch in all conditions making sure it looks its best for our teams.
Rimington we would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his hard work and commitment to the club.
Phil Hodgson said:
"To everybody who over the years or the present day who have been involved with Rimington FC in whatever capacity you should be be proud of being associated with the best club in Lancashire and Yorkshire with the best facilities.
The highs that this football club has given me over the years culminating in the fantastic West Riding County Cup team in 2013 I will treasure for ever.
My hips and knees are knocking, my back is aching, but I have had some wonderful years at Rimmy.
To the local Rimmy residents who have helped me on the pitch over the years thank you. I’m still about and looking forward to Rimington Football Club continuing the success story in its 50th year especially now the club has a fantastic junior setup".
Tange forever. Phil
Chairman Terry Braithwaite said
"Phil Hodgson has decided to call it a day as our groundsman. It is obviously a blow but we should be grateful to him for his sterling efforts over so many years. He played as a winger in the 70's when the club moved to our current home, Coulthurst Jubilee Sports Field, and when his playing career was cut short by a bad knee injury in the 80's, he managed the club in 2 spells (86-89, 90-93) and took us to our 1st Craven Cup (93) Atiken Shield winners (88 & 89) East Lancs Division 2 league and cup winners (91). Phil was the driving force behind the celebrations of our 30th & 40th anniversaries and will be for our 50th in 2021-22. His greatest success however, has been the pitch. The playing surface has been transformed from being a farmer's field to one of the best surfaces in East Lancashire. Phil has taken his groundsman duties very seriously and his commitment has to be commended. He has agreed to stay on as an advisor, if required, but now we have to try and replace him which will not be easy. The exec committee are working hard to bring in funding to improve the pitch and facilities still further, so it is an exciting time for RFC.
If you are interested in becoming our next groundsman or can spare some time to help at the ground please direct message the club.
The club are also looking for volunteers to come forward ahead of next season who can offer help in roles such as match day support, ground maintenance, social media and fundraising.
